Our Story and Vision of a Sustainable Future
In a world where access to clean water and sanitation remains a challenge, SUDrain was born out of a mission to drive change. During an inspiring Lightning Talk, our CEO and Founder, Ms. Thary Vorn, shared her vision – one rooted in the urgency to address the devastating effects of open pit latrines on public health, the environment, and local economies. With a deep understanding of these challenges, she set out to create a solution, founding SUDrain to revolutionize wastewater management in Cambodia and beyond.
With expertise in Agro-Industry and Environmental Engineering, Thary brought a fresh perspective to the industry. Her relentless pursuit of innovation led to SUDrain’s breakthrough technology – an eco-friendly wastewater treatment system that harnesses recycled coconut waste. This pioneering approach not only improves sanitation but also aligns with sustainable environmental practices, proving that solutions can be both effective and responsible.
SUDrain’s commitment to innovation and sustainability has earned far-reaching recognition. In 2022, we won the Khmer Enterprise Startup Award and secured the Top Impact Challenge at the SEA Award, highlighting the scalability of our solutions. In 2023, we achieved 1st Prize at the Lafiya Innovators Program, further solidifying our impact. Most recently, in 2024, SUDrain was honored with the prestigious ASEAN Blue Innovation Challenge grant, funded by UNDP, ASEAN, and the Government of Japan, underscoring our role in driving sustainable change across the region.
Today, SUDrain is actively working on multiple projects to improve sanitation and climate resilience in coastal and vulnerable communities. By tackling challenges one community at a time, we are turning our vision into reality – a future where every person has access to safe water, sustainable sanitation, and the dignity of a healthier life.
Our Mission
We provide an innovative and sustainable wastewater treatment solution by recycling coconut waste into biofilm filters. Our easy-to-install technology delivers highly efficient pollutant removal for industrial, domestic, and ammonia nitrogen wastewater. By offering space-saving, eco-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing solutions, we aim to improve environmental quality and enhance the lives of the communities we serve.

Thary Vorn is the CEO and Founder of SUDrain, an innovative social enterprise revolutionizing wastewater treatment with eco-friendly, coconut-based solutions.
As Cambodia’s first female environmental engineer, she is a passionate advocate for sustainability, gender inclusion, and nature-based solutions. With over five years of experience in WASH and environmental innovation, Thary has received numerous accolades, including the ASEAN Blue Innovation Challenge and UN Women Climate Tech Accelerator. She is committed to transforming communities and promoting circular economy practices across Southeast Asia.
