In Lightning Talk session, Ms. Thary Vorn shares the inspiring story of SUDrain, a Cambodian startup addressing sanitation challenges. Witnessing the dire conditions of open pit latrines in Cambodian communities, she founded SUDrain to combat the devastating impact on public health, livelihoods, enviroment, and local economic. Thary Vorn, the CEO & Founder, with a background in Agro-Industry and Environmental Engineering, emphasizes innovation, passion, and dedication as the driving forces behind their solution. SUDrain’s technology, using coconut waste, is both planet-friendly and revolutionary in wastewater treatment. The startup has received recognition, winning awards and participating in impactful programs like SmartSpark. Notably, SUDrain’s achievements include a Khmer Enterprise startup award in 2022, Won Top of Impact challenges at SEA award in 2022, and won the 1st Prize in the Lafiya Innovators Program in 2023. The social enterprise focuses on scalable sustainability, aiming to reach over 200 households along the Bassac River, providing WASH training, climate resilience concepts, and ongoing support. The long-term vision involves reaching 100,000 people around Tonle Sap Lake, creating a healthier world with accessible safe water and sanitation.
